Head Coach Megan CurryMegan Curry

BIRMINGHAM, AL. – Samford Athletics Hall of Famer Megan Curry has been named the 11th head coach in Samford Softball history, Director of Athletics Martin Newton announced on Friday.

"We are excited to welcome back a former student-athlete who loves Samford University," Newton said. "I'm positive that Megan is the right person at the right time to lead this program as she possess a full and unwavering understanding of the university's mission."

Curry, one of the most decorated players in Samford softball history, returns to Lakeshore Drive after a successful season at Birmingham-Southern College, where she was named Southern Athletic Association (SAA) Coach of the Year. In her lone year at the helm of the Panthers, BSC finished runner-up in the conference with a 24-17 overall record and a 13-5 mark in league play.

"I want to thank Martin Newton and the rest of the Samford athletic department for giving me this wonderful opportunity to lead the softball program. I have personally felt the impact Samford can leave on one and believe in the mission wholeheartedly," Curry said. "I look forward to competing for championships within the SoCon and ultimately creating a culture of excellence. It will be one of the greatest joys of my life to come back home. Go Dogs!"

Before returning to Birmingham, Curry spent a pair of seasons as the head coach at Asbury University in Kentucky and a year on staff at Southern Conference foe Mercer. She got her start in coaching as an assistant coach for the Bulldogs from 2016-18.

As a player for Samford, Curry was a standout center fielder for the Bulldogs from 2013 to 2016. She led the team in hitting in three of her four seasons and was named the SoCon Player of the Year after leading the Bulldogs to the program's first SoCon regular season title in 2016. That season, the team also won the SoCon Tournament and reached the program's first NCAA Tournament. Dowdy's .437 batting average in 2015 and her 24 doubles in 2016 are both still school single-season records. She still holds the career record for doubles with 48, and her .363 career average was a school record at the end of her career and currently ranks second in school history.

She graduated from Samford in 2016 with a bachelor's degree in sports administration and from Asbury University in 2024 with a master's degree in business administration, specializing in sports management. Her husband, Parker Curry, was an All-SoCon pitcher for the Bulldog baseball team in 2016 and currently serves as the Director of Pitching Development at UAB. They have one daughter.
